Thank you, Patricia Grace for nominating me for the Liebster Award. I also want to thank you for your many compliments on my writing; to be complimented by a published author is a very big boost to my self confidence indeed!
1-What motivated you to start a blog?
I love to write, and I wanted to share a story that told the truth about sexual abuse and what it’s really like to be a survivor. I think that society doesn’t like to acknowledge how often it happens, or what sexual abuse really is, and I wanted to try to bring some light to the issue.
2-Did you previously write? Where & when?
I’ve only written in journals that I’ve kept for myself, or papers I’ve written for school and college.
3-What are your favorite past-times?
I really love to cook and bake. I’m also learning that a lot of the things I “loved” were really things I was supposed to like. I love to sketch, and I love to write. I feel like right now, I’m getting to know myself, and learning what I like. I am a strange mix of intellectual— I love nonfiction, and more “nerdy” things– and creative– I love sewing, baking, creating, art.
4-Do you have a partner, children or a pet?
I’m married; in my blog my husband is called Hubby. We have a four year old daughter called Kat. We have 3 pets; a cat, Cooper, a big golden retriever/husky mix named Shy, and a Maltese named Chloe.
5-Are you a tea, coffee or milk drinker when you first wake up in the morning?
coffee with cream, or tea with some sugar. I like both, and usually have both in the morning. 🙂
6-What is your favorite time of day?
I love mornings, that time when I’m up before anyone else, and even my dogs are sleeping so peacefully. I like to read, or write in my blog, create new recipes, journal, or just try to relax.
7-Do you feel that blogging is worth your time and as satisfying as you’d like it to be?
I love blogging. I’ve been surprised that blogging has shown me I’m not alone in my struggles and feelings. I wanted to write to reach people and help show the truth about sexual abuse, but writing has given me a community of people who get it.
8-What is your favorite form of exercise?
swimming. I love to swim. It’s one time when I am less detached from my body, and I feel strong.
9-What or where is your favorite vacation?
Jamaica, with Hubby. It was amazing. Everyday started with relaxing on the beach, then breakfast, followed by a swim and then a nap…..lunch, and beach, then shower and formal dinner, then out to the bar/dance club…then a swim in the pool before bed. It was maybe the most relaxed I have ever been in my life. I wish we could go back.
10-Do you enjoy cooking?
yes! Kat has food allergies, so I am constantly creating new recipes, and I love making things and serving them to people who have no idea they are eating an allergy friendly food because it is so delicious.
11-If you could name one favorite book what would it be? Ok, if that’s a bit difficult, how about a list of 3 top favorites?
Oh man, this is really hard. I feel like I have favorite books for different stages of my life. For example, there was a period where I loved anything by Jodi Picoult, because I felt like she really made you think; books like “My Sister’s Keeper” gave voice to issues society did not want to think about. But I feel like she is begining to get redundant. I love “The Bean Trees” by Barbara Kingsley. It’s just a really powerful story, in my opinion. the time traveler’s wife, riding lessons, all the numbers, the secret garden, water for elephants, sundays at tiffanys, and the mermaid chair are just a few of the books I love. I also love nonfiction. “Far from the tree” by Andrew Soloman was life changing for me. “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk has also been life changing. ” Behind the veil” was a book I required all colorists in my department to read when I ran the color department at the Aveda salon I worked at.
Okay. Obviously, I love books. Books were my escape, growing up. I have lists of childhood books I loved, too. I won’t continue though, because I have already gone way over this question!
